It is a detached landmass that was separated from the Moon in collision to Earth. It was named by Misato Katsuragi. After the battle with Armaros and the Giant of Light, Shinji managed to trigger the Third Impact and use its force to land it in the former Izu Peninsula in the Pacific Ocean. Even when it was supposed to create tsunamis with the movement in the Earth with lesser mass, it didn't, but it did create some Earthquakes around the world.
