UNAF Close Air Support VTOL Aircraft YAGR-3B (近接航空支援用垂直離着陸対地攻撃機 YAGR-3B^?) is a vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft that appears in the Rebuild of Evangelion film series. It is the predecessor of the YAGR-N101.

Profile

The YAGR-3B features two adjustable wing-mounted thrusters that rotate to allow vertical take-off and landing functionality as well as horizontal movement once in the air. Its blocky yet narrow main body has two forward cockpits of similar size, one on the dorsal side and one located ventrally. The ventral side also has two side-mounted pods containing retractible landing gear, with a third set of retractible landing gear stowed further towards the rear in the main body. A series of machine gun and missile pods are mounted under the wings of the craft.

History

Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone

The YAGR-3B is operated variously by the Japanese Strategic Self Defense Force, the United Nations, and NERV. It is used as an assault aircraft, a personnel transport for VIPs, and can be operated in tandem with multiple YAGR-3Bs and a series of cables as a heavy cargo lift system.

During the attack of Fourth Angel, a large squadron of YAGR-3Bs attempt to subdue the creature as it advances on Tokyo-3, but they prove ineffective. The Fourth Angel impales and destroys at least one, and tramples on another that it knocked out of the air. The squadron flees the area when N² mines are deployed.

Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance

Immediately prior to the attack of the Seventh Angel, Gendo Ikari is transported from Yui Ikari's grave to NERV HQ aboard a YAGR-3B.

Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo

In Evangelion: 3.333 You Can (Not) Redo, one extra addition with this version was to retroactively insert the WILLE marked VTOL Aircraft YAGR-3B used by Ryoji Kaji to stop the Third Impact.

Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon A Time

In Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon A Time, in the flashback scene of Ryoji Kaji departure with Misato and Ritsuko, the VTOL Aircraft YAGR-3B with the WILLE colors can be seen in the background, linking with the new addition to the 3.333 version.

The YAGR-3B is replaced by the YAGR-N101 after the Near Third Impact.
