U4002-01 Nerv EU Extreme Heavy Lift Cargo Aircraft (Dedicated Eva Aerial Transport) (NERV EU直属大重量貨物輸送機 (エヴァンゲリオン空輸専用) U4002-01^?) is an aircraft that appears in Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance.

Features

The U4002-01 is a large transport aircraft of gray/blue color. It possesses a flying wing design, with a jagged zigzag flap pattern similar to that of the B-2 Spirit. There are numerous white and orange markings on the underside of the aircraft. "EU NERV" can be read on the underside of the wings written in white, and on the side of the cargo holds "NERV" can be read. It can be inferred from the contrails coming off of the aircraft that it is powered by some form of jet engine; it's able to maintain pace with its fighter escort aircraft.

History

Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance

It is deployed under "Task 02", It is used to transport Evangelion Production Model-02 from Europe to Hakone, Japan. It is escorted by a flight of Sukhoi Su-34 Fullbacks^WP. It releases Unit-02 during the attack of the Seventh Angel.

Development

It was designed by Michiaki Sato, a mechanical designer who also designed aircrafts for other anime series like Area 88^WP, RahXephon^WP and Mars Daybreak^WP.
