Tabgha Base (Rebuild)

Tabgha Base shown from an aerial view.

Tabgha Base (タブハベース, Tabuha Bēsu?) is the 7th Branch of NERV, stationed in the Mare TranquilitatisWP region of the Moon.

The base is situated on the edge of the giant red "blood stain" that appears on the Moon's surface. In Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone, the base has a highly unfinished appearance and is referred to as a "Provisional Excavation Base," although precisely what was being excavated has not been revealed.

Tabgha Base (Lance Covered) (Rebuild)

Spear of Cassius

Tabgha Base was responsible for the construction of Evangelion Mark.06. Kaworu Nagisa was stationed here until his deployment at the end of Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance. Mark.06's Spear of Cassius is shown in wrappings, in the process of relocation when Gendo and Fuyutsuki visit the base, wearing the Type OMM7L NERV Extravehicular Mobility Unity Suits. In Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance, a large structure appears above Mark.06, covered with large numbered iridescent metallic or fabric panels. This structure seems to hide Mark.06 from being viewed from Earth. Various red and white spacecraft appear above and around Tabgha Base, transporting materials and people.

Coffins[]

Tabgha Base (Coffins) (Rebuild)

Kaworu in a coffin, along with the other eight.

At the end of Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone, Kaworu emerges from one of nine visible coffin-like objects placed in front of Mark.06, with four to one side of him having already been opened, and the other four still closed. This series of coffins has been thought to indicate a form of time loop wherein Kaworu is reborn each cycle, to meet Shinji again.

In Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon A Time, it is revealed that these coffins, which are greater in number than what was shown in Evangelion 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone, contain Kaworu's past and future selves, as Kaworu was stuck inside a loop alongside Shinji.

Trivia[]

  • Real-life TabghaWP (from Heptapagon, "seven springs") is a valley near the Sea of Galilee in northern Israel (Tabgha Base is the seventh branch of NERV). It is considered to be where Jesus Christ reassembled the disciples, and where Peter was reinstated after denying Jesus three times.
  • The pit in which Evangelion Mark.06 is being excavated and/or constructed and the spacecraft used by Gendo and Fuyutski to spy on the proceedings bear visual similarities to a set and a prop from Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space OdysseyWP, a film which has received references from Evangelion multiple times before.
