Ryoji Kaji (加持リョウジ, Kaji Ryoji^?) is a fictional character that appears in the Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon A Time film. He is the son of Misato Katsuragi and Ryoji Kaji. He works as a lab member of the KREDIT, doing experimentations outside with the Sealling Pillar technology.

History

Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon A Time

Kensuke and Shinji visit one of the KREDIT's outside labs while it experiments with the Sealling Pillar technology. There, Kensuke says that he wants Shinji to meet someone, there they meet each other, Kaji asks Kensuke if Shinji is his new assistant and says that he never met an outsider and then he offers a handshake. Next scene it is already nightfall and Shinji wonder about his name. Kensuke tells him that he is indeed the son of Misato and Kaji, but he doesn't know about them. This was her decision as she believes that she wouldn't be a good mother so she decided to stay away and protect him as head of WILLE. At some point, Shinji and Kaji have their photograph taken smiling with each other.

Trivia

• The nametag in his KREDIT suit was one selected from various attempts written by the voice actor Kōki Uchiyama^WP.
• The design of the mask he carries is based on the mask used by Rando Yaguchi during Operation Yashiori in Shin Godzilla^WP.
• The clothes used by Ryoji Kaji in the page 20 of the EVA-EXTRA-EXTRA are a reference to the clothes used by Ryoji Kaji in the manga flashback scene in volume 7, according to the illustrator Shuichi Iseki.
• He refers to Kensuke as Aida-Sensei.

Arranged marriage previz scene.

• He was originally named simply "Shinji Kaji" during the previz scenes shown in the NHK's Professional Hideaki Anno 2021 documentary of the production. It shows an unused idea of an arranged marriage between Rei and a character named Shinji Kaji. It would be organized by one of the Village-3 ladies.
• The place where he and Shinji's photograph was taken was KREDIT No. 102 Restoration Trial Site. The photographer was K. Aida.
