Q.R. Signums integrated into shoulder pylons of an Angel Carrier Type-2.

Q.R. Signum (Short name for Quantum Resonance Signum) is a source of power used by Armaros and the various Evangelion he controls in the Neon Genesis Evangelion: ANIMA novel series.

Profile[]

Q.R. Signum is a term used to refer to both the physical receivers which allow Q.R. Signum to power Evangelion units as well as the power itself. The receivers, called Q.R. Signums, are massive black, tablet like objects with red markings referred to as scales[1]. In order for these scales to provide power, they must be fused into Evangelion units. The specifics of what fusing entails are unclear and there don't appear to be any rules regarding location or quantity of scales on the unit either as the number and placement of the scales vary between units.

Some examples of this variance include the Angel Carrier Type-2 and Evangelion EURO-II Heurtebise having two Q.R. Signums fused to their shoulder pylons as opposed to Angel Carrier Type-1 and Evangelion Unit-0.0 Mutant who only have one Q.R. Signum fused into their chests.

While Q.R. Signums have no stated limit to the amount of power they can receive, in practice they may have some limitations as evidenced by a scale used by an Angel Carrier Type-2 overheating and failing after extensive use[2]. Additionally, Q.R. Signums aren't particularly durable as the Super Evangelion was able to crush one with its bare hands with little effort once removed from an Evangelion[3].

Features[]

  • Power originates from Armaros
  • Transmits power to Evangelion units[4]
  • Tapping into energy connects pilots to Armaros (forced to look into Armaros' darkness, whatever that means)[5]
  • Gives Armaros some form of control over Evangelion units (I'm sure there's a reference to this around Euro-II)
  • Allows for some form of teleportation[6]
  • Allows for regeneration so long as the unit still has access to Signum power[7]
  • Powers weapons (referenced all over the books)
  • Transforms appearance of Eva units[8]
  • Mentally contaminates pilots[9]

History[]

  • Something about its creation or origins if possible, Vol 5 chapter 7 mentions that there's the tunnel network made of the same stuff, probably good to put that here
  • Created by Armaros, definitely used by him
  • Euro-II (vol 2)
  • Eva Carriers (vol 2)
  • Unit-01/Shinji contamination (vol 3)
  • 0.0 Mutant (vol 4)
