Neon Genesis Evangelion Digital Card Library (新世紀エヴァンゲリオン デジタル・カード・ライブラリ, Shin Seiki Evangerion Dejitaru Kādo Raiburari?) is a video game released exclusively for the Japanese Sega SaturnWP on 25 September 1997.
Overview[]
This is a game with the objective of completing a trading card album. The main menu takes the form of a notebook where the cards already obtained on several pages are grouped. These are sorted into several categories ("Gold", "Characters", "Eva", and "Miscellaneous") and take the form of an image which, when selected, plays a short video made from from the Neon Genesis Evangelion TV series. The player starts with ten cards in his possession. To get the others, he must play several mini-games also presented in the form of unlockable cards. At the launch of the game, two mini-games are available on the existing nine.
Other items can be obtained like bonus cards featuring Evangelion merchandise, or galleries of yonkoma manga specially made for the game. In total, the game contains 207 cards to collect, including 9 mini-game cards and 9 bonus cards.
Gameplay[]
Mini games[]
- Otoko no tatakai: The player must repeat a pattern of keys following the directions given in the reflection of Gendō Ikari's glasses .
- Kessen, daisan shin Tokyo-shi: The player controls Ramiel. He must shoot the Evangelion Unit-01 emerging from the GeoFront being careful not to shoot the decoys sent by NERV.
- Magmadiver: The player must guide Evangelion Unit-02 through the lava, avoiding hitting the crater walls and rockslides. When Sandalphon appears, it must be positioned in the right place to grab the Progressive Knife sent by Unit-01.
- Soul, nigedashita ato: The player must guide Unit-01 from the launch catapult to the surface through a maze of paths. A map on the side allows him to visualize the path to take before he launches Unit-01. His movements are very fast and must be done in a limited time to avoid game over.
- Semete, hito torirashiku: The player must throw Pen Pen on a track to grab a beer. He controls the shooting power, and speeds up or slows down the penguin to reach the objective.
- Yoru, nomi dashita nochi: The objective of the game is to give Misato beers before she's had all her stock. The player moves Shinji Ikari on a map where he must reach particular points. Each of them makes it possible to launch a slot machine where the objective is to line up three identical beers to win them. Once he has enough beer, he must move to another location on the map to donate them.
- Hito no tsukurishimono: The player must bring Misato Katsuragi to the Jet Alone being careful that she does not fall from the hand of Evangelion Unit-01 .
- Juugo maime no tekikaku-sha: this is a teasing game using the image of the title screens of the episodes of the series.
- NERV, tanjou: This is an MCQ about Neon Genesis Evangelion.
