History[]
Neon Genesis Evangelion: ANIMA[]
Volume 1[]
After the events of the Third Impact three years ago, Vice Commander Kozo Fuyutsuki resigned with hardly a word about the disappearing members of NERV.[1]
Volume 2[]
Toji went to a house in the deep mountains of Kyoto to find Kozo, who had his hair grown long and was wearing a kimono. He was living alone, with lots of books about anthropology and religion. Toji asked him to return to NERV and explained what happened to Misato.[2]
Due to knowing too much about the past events, the NERV information security department decided to imprison Kozo deep in the mountainside. For three years he remained under twenty-four-hour surveillance, complete with countermeasures against third-party espionage. The NERV Japan commander, Misato Katsuragi decided to give him a certain level of freedom as a personal favor.[2]
Kozo imagined that someday he would be asked to return to NERV, but only by Misato or Shinji, and he decided that he would refuse. But he realized that Toji was different from them, he was someone who had the social aptitude to connect people. He wondered if "Can this young man, and all the people of Nerv, overcome the sins that Ikari and I committed?" And was willing to see it.[2]
Kozo had his hair cut and was in his old uniform once again, just like 3 years ago. Toji asked him in private to take up the reins but was chastised to never say that out loud again.[3]
Upon being greeted by Shinji in the Control Room, he thought for a moment that it was Yui. Kozo feared that Shinji's growth would bring him closer to Gendo. Kozo worried he would always see Gendo when he looked at a more mature Shinji. And this would be the reason for him to refuse going back to Nerv if it was Shinji who asked.[3]
