GAINAX Company, LimitedWP (株式会社ガイナックス, Kabushiki-gaisha Gainakkusu?) (pron. "guy-nax") was an production studio which produced Neon Genesis Evangelion. It was founded in 1981 (when it was originally known as "Daicon Film") by four university students: Hideaki Anno, Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, Takami AkaiWP, and Shinji HiguchiWP. Anno has since retired from the company to form his own production studio, khara inc.. GAINAX then went bankrupt on 29 May 2024, following financial and managerial troubles after being sued over unpaid debts.[1] The rights to the Evangelion series were then passed over to khara inc.[1]
