Mayumi Yamagishi (山岸マユミ, Yamagishi Mayumi^?) is an original fictional character that appears in the Sega Saturn game Neon Genesis Evangelion: Second Impression. She is a student who enjoys reading and somehow contains the Core of the Insubstantial Angel within her body. At base she is a female version of Shinji Ikari.

Personality

She is a young girl who is similar to Shinji. Like him, she is an introverted person who prefers to be left alone due to her childhood trauma. While he prefers to listen to music, Mayumi prefers to immerse herself in books. They often encounter each other is such places like the school's library or the book shop.

Appearance

Mayumi Yamagishi is a teenage girl with long black hair and a mole underneath her bottom lip. She uses thin-rimmed glasses. Having recently transferred to Tokyo-3 middle school, Mayumi does not wear the New Tokyo-3 1st Municipal Junior High School's uniform. This sets her apart from the other students since she wears a green-skirted uniform with a white shirt covered with a yellow sleeveless vest.

History

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Second Impression

When she was younger, she witnessed her father stab her mother to death due to a disagreement at work, and since then she has distanced herself from others.

Mayumi is the adopted daughter of a father working at the United Nations as an engineer. She is transferred to Shinji Ikari's class. Depending on the actions of the player, she may be part of the Earth Defense Group, a musical group consisting of Toji Suzuhara, Kensuke Aida and Shinji Ikari for the school's cultural festival. She then plays the song "Kimi ga, Kimi ni Umareta Wake". In one of the scenarios, the Insubstantial Angel hid its Core inside Mayumi. Shinji's dilemma is then to decide whether he should kill her or not. After being discovered, the Angel returned his Core inside itself and is eventually defeated by Rei Ayanami and her Unit-00. After this, she understood Shinji's message and left Tokyo-3 with hope.
