"General-Purpose Humanoid Battle Weapon Android Evangelion Utility Model Unit Two Revised Beta") is an Evangelion unit appearing in Rebuild of Evangelion movie series. It appears in the movie Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, piloted by Asuka Shikinami Langley during the Operation US.

Profile

The repaired Unit-02 first appears as the Evangelion Production Model-02'β (汎用ヒト型決戦兵器 人造人間エヴァンゲリオン 正規実用型 改2号機β[?], "Hanyō Hitogata Kessen Heiki Jinzō Ningen Evangerion Seiki Jitsuyōgata Kai Nigōki Bēta", lit. "General-Purpose Humanoid Battle Weapon Android Evangelion Utility Model Unit Two Revised Beta"). Its design remains relatively the same as the normal Unit-02 save for its head which now sports a new, grey lower jaw plate, as well as a plate on the right side of the helmet to replace the previous, now damaged, right sensors, the lower one is colored orange and the higher one is considerably smaller than the rest of the sensors.. The left arm is also replaced with a prosthetic arm which yields a three-round grappler hook. The modifications were made to restore parts damaged by the Tenth Angel.

Features

Fourteen years later, the Evangelion unit underwent some alterations. A notable change to it was that its left arm, lost in the battle against the Tenth Angel, was never repaired and was instead replaced by a fully robotic prosthetic arm, that in this case, is a three point rod used as a grappling hook supported by a volley system where the shoulder pylons would be.

History

Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo

It appears in Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, as the customized Unit-02'β. It is first seen, during the Operation US, releasing the fuel and tank parts used to launch it to space. Misato's original plan was for Mari to lead the operation with Asuka in support, as Unit-08 was less damaged, but Mari insists that Asuka take the lead in order for Shinji's sake.[1] It is unknown if in the original plan, this configuration was the same as the one used in the Operation US, since Unit-02 was going to be on support rather than the one to be near the tesseract. It moves by using the Pod 02-Dash, a two sets of boosters and being protected by two shields enveloping the Unit. It was first attacked by the automatized defense system but protected by the A.T. Field generated. It was confirmed that it was a Pattern Blue attack launched by Mark.04A. Using the A.T. Field to launch itself and move around the space, the Mark.04A pierces the A.T. Field of Unit-02'β using the rapid movement of its legs. As soon it breaches in, it shoots a burst of shots that destroys one of the shield used to protect Unit-02'β, it was discarded, releasing the remains to the space. As the Mark.04A continues to try to intercept the Unit, it is defended by Unit-08α using a sniper rifle to support it from a safe distance, as it falls down towards Earth.

As it approaches Area 89, where the tesseract is located and in movement, Unit-02'β uses the three piercing rods inside the arms to lock it in using cables to maneuver near the objective and then using the boosters to decelerate. When the deceleration is complete, Unit-02'β releases the boosters to prepare to reentry into Earth. As soon as Asuka confirms with WILLE, another Pattern Blue is found inside the tesseract, it was Mark.04B that prepares its defense against invasors.

The Evangelio Mark.04B prepares the attack by using a field-reflective coating, allowing it to fire beams that the A.T. Field cannot protect. The movement of Mark.04B in space alters the direction of the tesseract, which can cause the destruction of the Evangelion in the reentry. One of the attacks launched by Mark.04B completely destroys the left arm of Unit-02'β and keeps firing at it piercing the armor as Asuka screams for Shinji to help. Then a break on the tesseract walls appears and a purple beam comes out and completely destroys the reflective field and chases the Mark.04B, finally destroying it. The battle is finished and both Unit-02'β and the tesseract finally starts to reentry on the atmosphere.

Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon A Time

Evangelion Production Model-02'β makes it's last onscreen appearance when Gendo destroys all of the Evangelion Units with the Spear of Gaius piercing Unit-01 and Evangelion 13 to continue the Neon Genesis.
