Evangelion Unit-01 "G" Awakening (エヴァンゲリオン 初号機 "G"覚醒形態, Evangerion Shogōki "G" Kakusei Tai?) (also known as Evangelion Unit-01 "G" -Awakened Mode-)[1] is an Evangelion unit appearing in the Godzilla vs Evangelion collaboration.

The form of Evangelion Unit-01 after showering in Godzilla's atomic breath, being infected with G Cells[2], Unit-01 suffered a mutation that altered its body, creating a long tail just like Godzilla.
History[]
King Ghidorah, a space monster and King of the Angels attacks Earth. Then, a three-way battle develops between Godzilla, King Ghidorah, and Unit-01.
Even Godzilla and Unit-01 were unable to stand up against the overwhelming power of King Ghidorah, and it seemed that Earth domination was only a matter of time. While this tense stalemate continues, Godzilla takes the inexplicable action of showering Unit-01 with atomic breath. After this, a mutation happened to Unit-01.[3]
Development[]
It was initially developed as a 38cm PVC figure developed by PLEX and TOHO announced on 28 July 2016 for as January 2017 release. The setting of an Evangelion taken over by G Cells and mutating was the initial idea. [4] A renewal reprint[5] with different colors was announced to on pre order on 08 December 2022.[6]
It was also featured as a playable unit in the mobile game Evangelion: Breaking Dawn. The head design is different in the game, having the full helmet still covering the head unlike the original design, which only covers it partially.
The story and its appearance would be expanded in the pachinko game P Godzilla vs. Evangelion ~G Cell Awakening~ and later pachislot L Godzilla vs Evangelion.
On 23 December 2023, it was also featured as part of the [PC11] BS Premium Card Set Godzilla vs Evangelion in the Battle Spirits collaboration.[7]
Prototype revealed in WONDERFEST 2024 Winter.
On 11 February 2024, during WONDERFEST 2024 Winter, a new figure prototype was revealed named Evangelion Unit-01 Burning "G" Awakening form (エヴァンゲリオン初号機 バーニング"G"覚醒形態?). This figure has a halo and the arm is raised unlike the previous figure [8]

The figure was in preorder on 01 June 2024 until 24 June 2024 through Premium Bandai's online store for 38,500 yen. The figure was scheduled to ship out to buyers in September 2024.
