- The event "10 Days Amusement Park" (10Days アミューズメントパ ーク?) commemorating the 10th anniversary of "NEWTYPE" (Kadokawa Shoten) was held at the Sony Building in Ginza, Tokyo. An Evangelion panel using the illustration from the April issue cover of "NEWTYPE" was on display. An announcement postcard using the same illustration was also prepared, and was the first announcement to the general public.

- It was the cover and first article in the April issue of "NEWTYPE". This was the first time that it appeared on the cover of an anime magazine and the first time that a full-fledged article was written about it.

At this event, the Evangelion Unit-01 resin model was created for drawing reference was sold by sculptor Haruki Yoshiyama's personal circle, kip. Of course, this was the first garage kit released for Evangelion, but it did not sell well, partly because it was before the anime aired.

- Neon Genesis Evangelion Episode:01 “Angel Attack” was aired on TV Tokyo. The first episode depicts at a fast pace the appearance of a mysterious enemy/Angel, the encounter between the main characters Shinji and Misato, the reunion with his father, and the launch of Evangelion Unit-01.

- Animate (MOVIC)'s first Evangelion product released. Poster, underlay, cassette index, settei material collection, 4 types of laminate cards, telephone card, video case. Since then, various products have been released.

- Episode:02, “An Unfamiliar Ceiling” was aired. The first part is divided into two parts, but the tricky structure is that part B depicts the battle that began at the end of the first part as a flashback.

- The Episode:03 "The Phone That Never Rings" airs. The drama depicts Shinji's inability to adjust to life in a new environment and his battle with the fourth Angel, Shamshel. The term The Porcupine's Dilemma, which is related to the theme of the series, also appears in this episode.

- A UFO catcher stuffed toy is now available as an amusement park prize (Sega Enterprises). Next, a key chain mascot appeared in November, but there were surprisingly few Evangelion amusement items at the time of the main TV broadcast. - NEWTYPE FILM BOOK Neon Genesis Evangelion 1 (Kadokawa Shoten) was released. Rather than the anime comic format where lines are expressed in speech bubbles, this style consists of square photos and captions. It became a popular series, and since then a total of nine books compiling the episodes and three books with the films have been released.

- Episode:14 "SEELE, the Throne of Souls" aired. Due to programming schedules during New Year's Day, it was aired early in the morning in the Tokyo area. This is a compilation-like episode with new scenes kept to a minimum.

- Episode:15 "Lies and Silence" aired. This episode marks a turning point in the series. From this episode on, the story began to develop in a direction that depicted the drama more deeply and emphasized the theme more strongly. [ Furukawa.

- VT & LD Neon Genesis Evangelion Genesis 0:1 was released. Contains episodes 1 and 2. LD was released as a limited edition BOX version, but it was sold out on the first day. Also, what is included in this VT & LD series is a version of the TV broadcast version with more detailed drawing and filming corrections. The next preview includes two versions: the originally planned "30 second original version" and the "15 second TV version" that was aired on TV. Takeshi Honda was in charge of the jacket illustrations throughout the series. For the jacket design, extremely thick Mincho was used effectively. The concept and writing for this VT & LD series was done by Yūichirō OguroWP, a studio leader who would be involved in many Evangelion-related edits, and the design was by Norihiko Nezu. This design using extremely thick Mincho would later be copied in many media.

- Episode:19 "A Man's Battle" aired. It is the final episode of the "The Fourth Children Trilogy" and can be said to be the climax of Shinji's drama that has been depicted since the first episode.

At the time, some of the garage kits on sale were expensive and aimed at advanced users, so this product succeeded in attracting a large number of casual users. - Episode:26 "The Beast that Shouted 'I' at the Heart of the World" aired. Episode 25 and the final episode had a unique structure in that most of the story took place in the inner worlds of the characters. In addition, the connection with previous episodes was difficult to understand, and the mysteries in the story were not explained, and fans were divided between pros and cons, sparking various debates, and causing ripples both domestically and internationally. Ironically, it can be said that the Evangelion boom became overheated because of the ending of this TV series.

- Director Hideaki Anno appeared on the radio program "Heartful Station" where Megumi Hayashibara, who plays Rei, served as a DJ. He talked about Evangelion, focusing on the ending of the TV series. This is the first time that he has said that he created Evangelion with a live feel. It is also discussed in this program that the VT & LD version would remake Episode:25 and the final episode to create a kind of alternative ending. Director Anno also appeared on "Tokyo Boogie Night" which was broadcast on April 14, 21, and 28, and also features Megumi Hayashibara as DJ.

- The GAINAX Public Relations Department reworked the episodes 21, 22, 23 and 24 based on the original script, and for the VT & LD version, the episode 19 was re-dubbed, and the and new audio was re-dubbed for later episodes. - "GAINAX Official Evangelion Event Garekigerion" (GAINAX 公認エヴァ ンゲリオンイベント ガレキゲリオン?) was held at Kaiyodo Hobby Lobby in Shibuya, Tokyo. The contents include display and sale of garage kits from each manufacturer. There was also an exhibition of materials such as cell drawings. In addition to resin cast and soft vinyl kits, later even plastic injection molding kits, which were difficult to achieve cost performance as garage kits, appeared. The huge 185cm Unit-01 was also on display.

- The Mitaka City Water Department in Tokyo ran a water conservation campaign in partnership with Evangelion during Water Supply Week. Specifically, posters featuring an illustration of Rei Ayanami in a yukata drawn by animation director Takeshi Honda for this campaign were put up around the city. The idea was to distribute underlays with the same design. Mitaka City was flooded with inquiries from fans seeking posters. It became so hot that it disrupted normal business operations at City Hall. The city also produced posters for the National Pension System using Asuka's original illustrations, as well as underlays for the Parks Bureau using Rei's original illustrations.

- VT & LD "Neon Genesis Evangelion Genesis 0:5" was released. Contains episodes 9 and 10.

- GAINAX new year party. The GAINAX New Year's Party was held at Velfare, a disco in Roppongi, Tokyo, with approximately 700 people including related parties and the media. It was an event unique to GAINAX, where participants were required to wear cosplay. At this time, it was announced that the remake version of Episode 25 and 26 would be released in theaters in the spring of 1997.

- A special radio program "Radio Evangelion" (ラジオエヴァンゲリオン?) was broadcast on Nippon Cultural Broadcasting. The two-and-a-half-hour live broadcast was hosted by director Anno, Yuko Miyamura, and Bunka Broadcasting announcer Nobita Hasegawa.[3]

- Gashapon HG series "Neon Genesis Evangelion Part 1" (Bandai) released. Pre-painted mini figure with excellent coloring and pose. In the subsequent series, while keeping the main features, we also developed maniac variations such as Unit-01 (Berserk) and Maya Ibuki. Gashapon also sells collector's swings and 5-inch figures.

- The manga anthology Evangelion 4-Koma Complete Works was released.
- 23 November
- "DEATH & REBIRTH" special viewing ticket with telephone card was on sale. There are two types of telephone cards: Rei and Asuka by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto. A total of 40,000 copies, 20,000 copies each, were released at 74 theaters nationwide, and they sold out on the same day.
