Calvary Base (カルヴァリーベース, Karuvuarī Bēsu?) is a NERV facility where the Second Impact took place. It is located at the former South Pole of Earth.
The expanded area viewed from outside, there are four black crosses, one straight and a slanted one, all crosses contains rainbow coloured halos that rise from under the L-Containment Field Barrier. Descending near the ground zero, where the Second Impact happened, a gigantic Seraph[1] shaped geoglyph covers the ground. A hole in the middle with purple lights coming from the borders that dwarfs even the NHG ship series.
History[]
The Calvary Base is the place where the final battle between WILLE and NERV took place during the Operation Yamato. The L-Contaiment Field Barrier covers the area, in this area, it rejects all life stained by the original sin according to Midori Kitakami. Koji Takao states that this purified area couldn't be advanced without the Anti-L System that is used in WILLE plugsuits and the Kaji's data. Misato Katsuragi upon seeing it refers to it as Gates of Hell, even more when she realizes that they intend to use the same method as the Second Impact to initiate the Fourth, but is corrected by Ritsuko, that explains that this whole ordeal is unknown. When Evangelion Mark.09-A takes control of the AAA Wunder to continue the forced conversion of the Black Moon into spears that when enters inside the hole in the ground zero, converts all ancient life into cores and merged with the Eva Infinities to initiate the Fourth Impact.
