2015 The Last Year of Ryohji Kaji is a photobook written by Hiroshi Yamaguchi with photographies by Ichiro Kamei. It was published in June 1997 by Kadokawa Shoten.

2015 The Last Year of Ryohji Kaji is written by Hiroshi Yamaguchi, co-writer of episodes 16, 22 and 23 of the Neon Genesis Evangelion series and the games Neon Genesis Evangelion and Neon Genesis Evangelion: Second Impression. The photos in the book are the work of Ichiro Kamei. Those are made using photographed models to give them a more realistic appearance. This search for realism also involves overlay work on real shots.

The book is presented as a section of a diary that Ryoji Kaji is said to have kept throughout the events of Neon Genesis Evangelion series. The text describe the character's thoughts and motivations. The photos are presented as real photos taken by Ryoji. The text is written in Japanese, but also in English.

When it was released, the price of the book was 4,800 yen. It was also released in a Collector's Edition limited to 2,015 copies. A cardboard case protects the book.

History[]

Ryoji's writings begin before his arrival in Japan with Asuka Langley Sohryu, and near his death. He comments on the fight against the Angels and his discoveries of the secrets of NERV through mission reports, communications, or personal letters where they clearly express his emotions. He wonders about what the Earth is currently experiencing and what it will become in the future.
