Neon Genesis Evangelion: Plan de Complémentarité Shinji Ikari (新世紀エヴァンゲリオン 碇シンジ育成計画 Shin Seiki Evangerion: Ikari Shinji Ikusei Keikaku?) est une série de mangas dessinée Takahashi Osamu et publiée par Kadokawa Shoten. Il s'agit de l'adaptation du jeu vidéo Neon Genesis Evangelion: Ikari Shinji Kusei Keikaku.

Synopsis[]

Après le Second Impact, une catastrophe qui ravagea la surface de la Terre il y a quinze ans, le monde renaît de ses cendres. Au Japon, les survivants se sont regroupés à Tokyo-3, la ville forteresse. Shinji Ikari y vit avec ses deux parents. Il partage son temps libre avec Asuka Langley Sōryū, son amie d’enfance dont il est secrètement amoureux. Tout bascule pour lui le jour où Rei Ayanami, une jeune fille de son âge, emménage avec lui.

En septembre 2004, Gainax développe le jeu vidéo Neon Genesis Evangelion: Ikari Shinji Kusei Keikaku. Il est édité par le studio Enterbrain, appartenant au groupe Kadokawa. Dans une logique de marketing media mix, semblable à celle utilisée pour Neon Genesis Evangelion: The Iron Maiden 2nd, une adaptation en manga est mise en œuvre. Un premier chapitre, intitulé Shinji-kun no choko hokan keikaku (シンジくんのチョコ補完計画?), est publié dans le magazine Monthly Shōnen Ace, le 26 octobre 2004. Sa création est confiée à Osamu Takahashi[1]. La réception positive de ce premier chapitre aurait permis la mise en chantier d'un projet d'adaptation plus ambitieux par le même auteur. Il s'agit de la première œuvre importante de Takahashi. Le premier chapitre est publié le 26 avril 2005 dans un numéro spécial du magazine Monthly Shōnen Ace dédié à Evangelion. Ce numéro propose aussi un nouveau chapitre de Neon Genesis Evangelion, ainsi que de Neon Genesis Evangelion: The Iron Maiden 2nd (normalement publié dans Monthly Asuka)[2].

Le manga est publié mensuellement dans le magazine. Sa popularité aurait atteint son apogée en 2008, avec la commercialisation de plusieurs chapitres bonus dans les magazines annexes au Shōnen Ace. La série connaît une importante longévité. Les publications décroissent à partir de 2013 en devenant plus irrégulières. Plusieurs chapitres supplémentaires sont directement commercialisés dans les éditions reliées. Osamu Takahashi annonce la fin du manga à l'été 2015, après 17 volumes reliés[3]. Finalement, la publication est prolongée jusqu'en février 2016 et un dix-huitième volume est commercialisé en mai 2016[4].

En France, Neon Genesis Evangelion: Plan de Complémentarité Shinji Ikari est édité chez Tonkam à partir de juillet 2008, en pleine effervescence de la franchise[5]. Pour promouvoir ce nouveau titre, l'éditeur organise un concours permettant à vingt personnes de gagner le premier volume[6]. Des problèmes administratifs, au début de l'année 2010, obligent Tonkam à mettre en pause la publication du manga. Elle reprend avec le volume 7 en mai 2010[7] en conservant son rythme habituel d'un volume tous les trois mois. Cependant, de nouvelles difficultés ralentissent une fois de plus la commercialisation à partir de février 2011. Les volumes 13 et 14 sont annoncés pour juillet 2013[8]. Cependant, seul le numéro 13 est commercialisé à cette date. Le quatorzième volume ne sera finalement jamais édité. En 2016, le rachat de Tonkam par Delcourt marque l'arrêt de la publication de la série en France[9].

Ventes[]

Les ventes du manga s'avèrent correctes. Lors de la semaine de sa sortie, le volume 08 se vend à plus de 70 000 exemplaires[10]. Entre 2009 et 2012, les ventes s'élèvent en moyenne à environ 80 000 unités par volume[11][12][13]. Les chiffres décroissent ensuite pour atteindre les 40 000 exemplaires[14][15][16]. Au total, le manga s'est vendu à plus de 900 000 exemplaires.
